Code of conduct policy and procedures

This policy applies to Karol Jansen as Developmental Educator and any future employees, subcontractors or volunteers who work for the business, and any who provide professional services and interventions for example, Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Developmental Educators, Support Workers.

 

Caring for children and young people brings additional responsibilities for any person working or volunteering for Karol Jansen Developmental Educator. All are therefore responsible for promoting and protecting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people by:

< >Following the Karol Jansen Developmental Educator Child Safe Policy and Procedures and taking all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and protection of all children and young people at all times.Treating everyone (as well as all who work and volunteer for Karol Jansen Developmental Educator) including those of different race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability, or attributes and religious beliefs with respect and honesty and ensuring equity is upheld.Being a positive role model to children and young people in all conduct and interactions with them.Setting clear boundaries about appropriate behaviour between workers and the children and young people remembering that boundaries help everyone to understand their roles.Listening and responding appropriately to the views and concerns of children and young people.Being alert to bullying behaviours and responding promptly and appropriately.Being alert to children and young people who are, or may be at risk of harm, and reporting this quickly to the Child Abuse Report Line (13 14 78).Responding quickly, fairly and transparently to any serious complaints made by a child, young person or their parent, guardian, carer, or support worker.Encouraging children and young people to ‘have a say’ on issues that are important to them. 

All workers and volunteers at Karol Jansen Developmental Educator must not:

< >Engage in rough physical games.Develop any ‘special’ relationships with children and young people that could be seen as favouritism such as the offering of gifts or special treatment.Do things of a personal nature that a child or young person can do for themselves, such as toileting or changing clothes.Discriminate against any child or young person because of age, gender, cultural background, religion, vulnerability or sexuality.Place a child or young person in situations or circumstances where they are at risk of harm.Place the child participant at the centre of any planning and support process Ascertain, as far as possible, the wishes of the child in relation to supports Only provide supports that are in the best interests of the child Focus on the strengths, contributions, and abilities of the child participant Recognise the uniqueness of each child participant Work to maximise personal connection and social participation Recognise the importance of the child participant’s support network in their development  

BREACH OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT

 

If any employees, subcontractors or volunteers who work for Karol Jansen Developmental Educator, are found to be in breach of the Code of Conduct, disciplinary action will be taken and depending on the severity of the breach, termination of employment / contract may occur.
